Learning how to use Learning.Bentley.com
Bentley has an "Introduction to Bentley Learn" course or Learning Plan (it's stated at 3 hours worth of material!).
Learning Plans are series of courses that take you to some Skill Outcome. Note that apparently now you must complete the courses sequentially - you can't just jump to a course and open it. The workaround is to search for the course by name and take it standalone.
Do NOT Start with MicroStation Training
Note: when learning OpenRoads as an engineer/designer, unless you are immediately responsible for drafting and sheeting, I do NOT recommend that you take significant MicroStation Training first. Unless you have a LOT of time to burn. Note that if you take a comprehensive MicroStation Training prior to learning OpenRoads, you will have to "unlearn" some outdated tools and techniques.
OpenRoads essentially has its own "civilized" versions of the general drafting tools. As a Civil Engineer, there is little need to learn a generic tool when there is a better equivalent tool in OpenRoads.
There will be gaps in the OpenRoads tools (and certainly the OpenRoads training) that is covered in MicroStation content. Put you primary effort into learning OpenRoads.
Start with...
"Navigating the Interface" (launch it on Learning.Bentley.com)
Audience: Everyone who wants to be able to open and OpenRoads file (.dgn) and get around it and get information from it.
This 90-minute hands-on (with videos)
- describes fundamental interface objects
- gives you the basic skills to navigating the file,
- introduces the multi-model dgn that is the basis for most OpenRoads files,
- shows techniques for seeing the Features' (graphics) properties
This course is essentially the CAD-prerequisite to the other OpenRoads courses. You will NOT be MicroStation-competent, but you will be ready to take the OpenRoads "introductory" courses.
